Give love to Earthsong with a donation

Earthsong has served as a destination nature retreat on the island of Hawai’i for over 30 years. The Earth Ashram is immersed in lush tropical vegetation providing an inspiring place to learn and a peaceful place to relax. Here, the guiding spiritual force and our greatest teacher is the āina (the land). Earthsong welcome people of all cultural, socioeconomic, and spiritual backgrounds to attend and host retreats and trainings that emphasize bringing people into harmony with nature. Here is some more information on what a retreat or training at Earthsong entails:

Earthsong is a Nature Retreat. We receive power from the sun and the wind. There is no Wi-Fi on the property and attending an immersion here is an invitation to take a break from technology to tune into deep ecology. All of the rustic structures are weaved into the food forest and you will be exposed to the earth’s song in wind, rain, birds, geckos, bugs, frogs, and cows.

Ka’u is the most rural, least populated and largest district on the Island of Hawai’i. Earthsong is located in Ka’u at the Southernmost point known as Ka Lae. Excursions while on retreat or training may include visiting both Green Sands Beach and Black Sands Beaches, jumping off cliffs into the Pacific ocean, hiking ancient Ohia forest, or bathing in spring water (all within 20 minutes driving).

Permaculture education both theoretical and practical, is included as a part of any program offered at Earthsong. We encourage all participants to give back to the land that holds them and feeds them, and to experience the nourishment available to us in the soil.

The residing Goddess of the land at Earthsong is the Wind! It is rare that there is no breeze to be felt. Usually the trade winds from the nearby ocean are flowing at 15mph, which helps keep mosquitos at bay and a continual feeling of renewal. It is best to come prepared with appropriate clothing and an open heart whose element is air.

In this video we documented a month long 300 hour Yoga & Permaculture Teacher Training. It is narrated by the participants and they give a glimpse into what it’s like to learn and live at Earthsong for a training or immersive retreat. When available we can offer this type of video documentary as an added service for training and retreat groups.

The wrap around deck overlooks the farm and faces the south point with ocean view. Above the hallway is another small room that is used as a private meditation nook, with an ocean view.
We provide sound healing instruments including gongs and singing bowls, as well as yoga mats, blocks, straps and bolsters.

The shala can fit up to 10 people on yoga mats for asana, with spots for a few more if for seated practice/satsang/lecture/ceremony/meditation.

The wrap around deck and outside open garden that is mostly flat is a great place to hold classes/events under the sun or stars and can accomodate more people.

In front of the shala are many fruit trees, veggies, and herbs growing as well as a large fire pit built by an iron stone mason perfect for fire ceremonies and gatherings.

Yellow Submarine Kitchen: The Yellow Submarine kitchen's story is magical, of course! Upon diving deep into the many treasures hidden at EarthSong, the stewards discovered many artifacts of The Beatles which inspired them to honor their legacy when remodeling the communal kitchen. They displayed the artifacts and invited an artist to paint the walls with lyrics from the song "The Yellow Submarine" that invoke warmth and peace which is perfect for such a cozy space to hold many meals and gatherings! The mural includes koi fish and lotus flowers to match the beautiful pond which can be seen from the kitchen's lounge. The entire space is decorated with art collected in India, further adding to the nod to the Beatles who were heavily influenced by their journeys east. There's space for cooking, dining, and lounging while enjoying a snack, reading a book, sipping a hot beverage, playing an instrument, having an enlightening conversation, or simply being with the art and the sounds and sights of the surrounding EarthSong forest just outside the window.

The 30 foot (9 meters) large yurt serves as a multi-purpose learning and movement space for the community. Groups here on retreats and trainings can access this space for ceremony, dance, lecture, and lounging. The Yurt can fit 25 yoga mats, and many more bodies for seated, standing, or dancing.

Meal Plans for Retreats:

There is an option for us to provide vegetarian/vegan/gluten free meal plans for an additional charge. A large portion of ingredients are grown here on the farm or sourced from our neighbor’s farms, so the menu will be determined by what is in season. We tend to follow the Ayurveda approach to diet including light breakfasts and lunches, incorporating lots of medicinal spices and herbs, and a mix of raw and slow cooked meals.

Here are some sample meal options and eating schedule would include:

Tea made from medicinal herbs growing here such as moringa and tulsi with a piece of fresh fruit to start the day and fuel your morning practice.

Breakfast post morning practice: Fruit and vegetable Smoothies with papaya, banana, avocado, kale, spinach, plus added “crunchy” stuff to amp up the health of your smoothie: spirulina, chia and flax seeds. Fresh fruit plate served with oatmeal, muesli, and/or granola. Side of homemade nut butter.

Lunch: Fresh salad from the garden with arugula, kale, and spinach mixed with tomatoes, carrots, and cabbage served with a homemade dressing. Raw green papaya salad served with peanut sauce. Avocado toast and a cup of butternut squash soup.

Dinner: Vegetable curry including many spices, fresh veggies and coconut milk served with mung beans or green lentils.
BBQ Jackfruit Stew.
* Deserts including homemade fruit pies, rice/chia pudding, and raw chocolates upon request.
* Snacks such as dehydrated fruits and our homemade nut butter can be purchased a la carte.

If you are a retreat/event host and would like to bring your own chef or cook for your event you can use our communal kitchen and all the supplies/tools that come with it plus some of our fresh produce and herbs.
