Permaculture & Yoga Immersions
The Synergy Between Yoga and Permaculture
Inner ecology meets outer ecology.
Yoga and permaculture are two paths that, at their roots, share the same intention: to live in harmony with nature.
Yoga teaches us to observe the patterns of the mind and body, to align with natural rhythms, and to cultivate awareness and balance.
Permaculture invites us to observe the patterns of the land, to design systems that align with ecological principles, and to cultivate harmony between humans and nature.
When practiced together, these disciplines reflect that the health of the inner landscape and the outer landscape are inseparable.
- In yoga, we learn non-harming (ahimsa): to move gently, to live simply.
In permaculture, we live by earth care, people care, & fair share: nurturing life in all its forms. - In yoga, we practice presence and observation.
In permaculture, we begin every design with observation of the land. - Yoga invites union of breath, body, and consciousness.
Permaculture invites integration of plants, animals, water, and people into a resilient whole. - Both are paths of regeneration of soil and soul, of community and consciousness.
Through this integration, your practice becomes the garden and the garden becomes your practice.
As you plant seeds in the soil, you also plant seeds of awareness in the heart.
As you compost food scraps, you also compost habits that no longer serve.
As you detangle vines, so do you detangle thought patterns & beliefs.
As you breathe with the land, you remember your own elemental nature.
As we receive the Earth’s medicine & nourishment, we realize how held & supported we are in her care & we vow to take care of her too.
This is the deeper promise of the immersion:
to live yoga off the mat and permaculture beyond the garden, merging the two into a way of life rooted in reverence & reciprocity.

Time to settle in. Time to transform. Time to integrate.
Twenty-one days offers something shorter trainings rarely can:
the chance to slow down enough to truly integrate.
It’s long enough for your nervous system to soften, your habits to shift,
and your relationship with the community, land (and yourself) to deepen in a real, embodied way.
In 21 days, you don’t just learn about permaculture and yoga,
you live them.
The Flow of the Immersion
A rhythm guided by sun, soil, breath, breeze, & silence.
Each day follows a gentle, grounding arc:

- Hands-on Permaculture Sessions exploring soil, plants, systems, and design
- Seasonal Harvesting & Cooking with an emphasis on Ayurveda

- Evening Philosophy, Ritual, or Music weaving play & learning
- Weekly Deep-Dive Modules in both permaculture & yogic wisdom
- Weekly Solo Time to journal, wander the land, or simply be
The pace is steady but spacious, intentionally crafted to avoid overwhelm and to create an environment where learning is absorbed through the body, not just the mind.
This is a flow that supports:
- embodied learning
- nervous system restoration
- relational connection
- inner and outer transformation
Holistic Nutrition:
Holistic Health starts in the soil, goes into the stomach and nourishes our soul. We are passionate about growing and sustaining ourselves with natural food and medicine. Our ways with nutrition encourages optimum nourishment, easeful digestion, calming the nervous system, and overall wellbeing while considering how our choices impact the wellbeing of the environment.
For our Holistic Nutrition, we will provide organic fruits, veggies, and herbs from the land and from the neighboring farms in our area. There will be minimal products purchased from the store including some gluten-free grains, nuts/seeds, high quality cooking oils and whole grain spices. For those who eat meat, there will be some animal products available, all free-range, grass fed/locally sourced. Cooking & sharing food is an integral aspect to the village life and we are here to provide guidance and support in working with the abundance that is in season and available from our bio-region.
The Setting: Earthsong Hawai‘i:
Nestled in the wild heart of Hawai‘i island in its most rural and isolated district of Ka’u, the Earthsong Foundation aka Nā Mele O Ka Āina, is a not-for-profit organization, a nature sanctuary, & an Earth Ashram; a place of ecological & spiritual study with the Earth as our primary guiding force. It is a living permaculture demonstration farm powered by the sun, with all of the structures built with recycled & natural materials woven into a mature food forest crawling with medicinal herbs. Here, learning happens through hands-on experience, guided mentorship, and the wisdom of the land itself. Days are structured by the sun, wind & rain, & sometimes the Volcano Goddess Pele. The island of Hawai’i is home to one of the most diverse bio-regions in the world and an excellent place to study ecology. The Hawaiian culture holds expansive wisdom of the ocean, cosmos, medicinal plants & ancient ways of interacting with nature as a living Being to be revered and respected.

Elena Rose
Earthsong Steward + Holistic Healing Artist + Permaculture Designer
Elena was led to become a Massage Therapist at 18 years old and has enjoyed a career as a Holistic Healing Artist now spanning 20 years, specializing in several modalities. By supporting tens of thousands of different bodies with various ailments & injuries, Elena came to a deep understanding of the mind body connection and how to support it with therapeutic touch, somatic release and subtle body awareness. At age 22, Elena opened a Wellness Center in Denver, Colorado in 2009 (closed in 2020). There, she and a team that grew to 20 welcomed people into the temple space for bodywork, community ritual, and to experience various therapeutic modalities. Elena expanded her skills in bodywork and group facilitation, including 3 Yoga Teacher Trainings at Sattva Yoga Academy in India studying under renowned Master Teacher Anand Mehrotra (200hr 2017, 300hr 2018, Master Training 2019). As a Sattva Yoga Master Teacher, Elena has hosted retreats, workshops, classes, and private sessions incorporating Kriya, Pranayama, Asana, Mantra, Meditation, Sacred Ritual, & Yogic Philosophy in several different countries including the United States, Central America, Australia, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. She has an extensive experience in bodywork, space holding, ethical business, and social permaculture. Elena was raised by professional spiritual jazz musicians, so she loves to play with song, dance, sound, and all creative arts. One of her special offerings is a Breathwork & Sound Ceremony that creates a powerful space for transformative experiences. Elena has been a teacher trainer on 200hr Yoga Teacher Trainings at Sattva Yoga Academy teaching Kriya, Puja, & Asana and for the yoga school Breath Body Earth who hosted their 300hr YTT at Earthsong where Elena taught Kriya, Ritual, Earth Magic, and Permaculture for the students.
Elena has also been greatly inspired by her travels across Asia and Central America, both places of ancestral heritage for her. Through connecting to the land of her Grandmother in Panamá in 2020, she met her husband Ryan and together they answered the call to Earthsong Hawai’i. She is now pouring her love into the land and receiving an abundance of growth through living so close to the earth and getting to serve both people and plants. Elena received her Permaculture Design Certification in Taiwan in 2024. Now, she is cultivating a space that merges the healing arts, yoga, and permaculture to provide us with a holistic framework in which to live well and wild.

Ryan Anthony
Earthsong Steward + Holistic Healing Artist + Permaculture Designer
Ryan grew up with a blessed childhood in the Lone Star State of Texas, calling the Austin area Hill Country his home until 2009. The rivers and lakes of Central Texas were always a place to enjoy and experience the beauty of Mother Nature. Being part of a large extended family of individualistic, self-made types, he found his own calling in exploration as a student of Geography and Language at the University of Texas, which lead to a deeper involvement over time with the ecology of the Planet and the good souls who inhabit It. Once leaving Texas in 2009, he embarked upon a journey to live in rural Latin America and establish a small farm homestead. In those 15-20 years of extensive global travel and rural living made the adage, “Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes better than master of one”, ring true for Ryan. Self-Reliance and personal liberty are values resulting from the practice of hands-on holistic learning guided by the ethics of Permaculture. Ryan seeks to share these ideals with all those who are open to being simultaneously a teacher and a student. For that, Ryan has never met a stranger, and recognizes the inherent benevolence in all people. He works towards justice, resilience, and truthful integrity throughout his days. The competitive nature that was conditioned by a youth full of sports and honor-roll academics has given way to a preference towards cooperation and consent-based leadership in community, while allowing space for all individual’s expressions of freedom, dissenting opinions and creating a space for mediation of conflict.
Upon coming together with Elena in 2020, Ryan moved from his off-grid homestead in the Republic of Panamá to stewardship of Earthsong in Hawai’i. This move has continued to challenge and broaden his experience in Permaculture, Holistic Health, and Steward of structures, land and community. Ryan received his first Permaculture Design Certification in 2010 and became a Certified Yoga Teacher at the Shri Kali Ashram in India in 2012 where he also studied Walking Massage and Ayurveda. In 2024, Ryan received his Permaculture Teacher Training Certificate in Taiwan to expand his capacity as a facilitator.

With a shared passion for holistic health, we have come together to facilitate a healing, transformative, and liberating environment for all who are drawn to Earthsong. We are here to serve the land and our community utilizing our hands and our hearts.
